What is Edge-To-Edge Quilting?

Edge-To-Edge or Overall Quilting is a quilting design that covers the entire quilt, regardless of quilt pattern, borders, or sashings. The pattern is repeated several times throughout each row. This type of quilting is excellent for quilts that will be loved and used for generations.

How wide can my quilt be?

The width of the quilt top should not exceed 114 inches; with that said, the length is not an issue as it will be rolled up during the quilting process.

How do I prepare my quilt top?

Press the back of your quilt top well; this is a good time to check all of your seams. Make sure that none the seams are coming apart and all of the seams are pressed flat on the back and facing in the desired direction. Cut off trailing threads from the back of the quilt; dark thread can show through any light colored areas and will detract from the final product. Stay-Stitch a ΒΌ inch in from the edge around the perimeter of the quilt top; this will keep any seams from popping.

How do I prepare my quilt backing?

Your backing must be at least 8 inches larger than the quilt top.
Remove all selvages, from the seams and along the edges; this will prevent rippling and puckering while being quilted. Be sure the backing is square as possible with the edges straightened. The quilt will not load properly on the rollers if it is not square. Press well and mark the top of the backing fabric with a pin and piece of paper for directional print.
